Chryso & GCP Win Two Innovative Fiber Project of the Year Awards
DUCTILCRETE® & STRUX® solutions recognized for solving complex challenges
Chryso & GCP (Saint-Gobain Construction Chemicals), a worldwide leader in sustainable construction, is proud to announce that the Fiber Reinforced Concrete Association (FRCA) awarded two of their projects with the Innovative Fiber Project of the Year award.
The FRCA is a leading industry organization dedicated to the advancement of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC). The association’s members include major manufacturers, suppliers, and marketers of the world’s leading FRC solutions in the concrete industry. The FRCA’s Innovative Fiber Project of the Year Awards recognize distinguished projects submitted by a contractor, architect, engineer, facility owner, or precaster that specified and/or utilized FRC. A panel of industry experts evaluated submissions based on their innovative use of FRC, as well as their value toward advancing the use of FRC within the concrete industry.
CHRYSO & GCP’s DUCTILCRETE® CP100 Engineered Slab System utilizing DC05 fibers won the first-place prize in the Innovative Fiber Project of the Year – Micro Synthetic category. The winning project selected was the Logistics Cross Dock Facility in Little Chute, Wisc. The application of DUCTILCRETE® CP100 saved the contractor time; provided a safer job site; and improved the site’s durability where it receives an average of 360 trucks daily.
The DUCTILCRETE® DC05 fiber uses a proprietary blend of macro and micro synthetic fibers. This blend benefits slabs for both long term crack control and reduces early plastic shrinkage cracking.
In the Innovative Fiber Project of the Year – Macro Synthetic category, CHRYSO & GCP’s Quarra Stone Company project in Madison, Wisc. won the second-place honor. The project had several cast-in-place panels that were curved making the placement of the reinforcing bar difficult in the 4-inch-thick section. Since the surface was sandblasted, and some of the panels were curved, there was a high probability of the “feet” of the chairs showing on the surface of the panels. The company’s STRUX® 90/40 synthetic macro-fibers were used to replace the welded wire reinforcement and supporting chairs to overcome this challenge.
STRUX® 90/40 synthetic macro fibers are a unique form of high strength, high modulus synthetic reinforcement that is evenly distributed throughout the concrete matrix. The macro fibers may be used in a variety of ready mix, precast, and shotcrete applications.
“The Innovative Fiber Project of the Year Awards showcase the transformative potential of fiber reinforced concrete in the construction industry,” said Matt Mulheron, P.E., North American Fiber Specialist. “We are thrilled to be honored for our innovative projects that are pushing the boundaries of what is possible with FRCA.”
