STRUX® Macro Synthetic Fibers
A Replacement for Welded Wire Mesh
Welded wire mesh has long been used to reinforce slab-on-ground concrete, bridge decks and thin-walled precast applications for temperature and shrinkage crack control. Although mesh provides adequate performance, it adds many downsides. The mesh takes time to transport, install and correctly chair.
STRUX® Macro Fibers are synthetic fibers added to concrete to enhance its structural integrity and durability. STRUX®, mixed into the concrete during the mixing operation, provide reinforcement throughout the entire matrix. In precast and prestressed concrete applications, macro fibers improve the concrete’s tensile strength and control cracking. They help distribute loads more evenly and reduce the risk of shrinkage cracks, which is particularly beneficial in large-scale precast elements like beams, panels, and slabs. By integrating STRUX®, manufacturers can produce more resilient and longer-lasting concrete paving.
One of the significant benefits of using concrete macro fibers over traditional steel rebar is the reduction in labor and material costs. Unlike steel rebar, which requires precise placement and tying, macro fibers are simply mixed into the concrete, saving time and reducing the potential for human error. Additionally, macro fibers are corrosion-resistant, which enhances the longevity of the concrete, especially in harsh environments where steel rebar might corrode over time. This leads to lower maintenance costs and a more sustainable construction solution. Furthermore, the use of macro fibers can improve the overall safety of construction sites by minimizing the handling of heavy steel bars and reducing the risk of injuries.
